This is my very first post on this blog. I just back from my vacation & now ready to share my experience. My trip was varied good & I’ve enjoyed a lot. My tour duration was 15 days, and I spent 10 Days in UAE including Dubai, Abu Dhabi & Sharjah and last five days I spent in Oman. Today, I’ll share how you can go to Musandam, Oman. So let’s get started.
Musandam is an area in the Arabian Peninsula., on the Strait of Hormuz of about 1,800 square kilometers that are governed by Oman. The area consists of four main provinces which are Dibba Al-Baya, Khasab, Bukhara, and Madha. Khasab, which is located 570 kilometers from Muscat, serves as the regional administrative center for Musandam. The coastline is very rocky and resembles glaciers in colder regions of the world. A large part of the population resides in the mountains, as did their ancestors. The population is approximately 29,000 with most people settling in Khasab.
How to get to Musandam?
In the past, access to Musandam was only either by air or road. The journey by road would take about 10 hours and involved stops at four immigration posts. While there are daily flights to the Musandam governorate, recent developments have seen an alternative transport mode which is Shina’s ferry service. The service was launched in 2008 and has made access much easier and faster, as the China boasts to be one of the fastest diesel ferries in the world. Road access is also available from Ras Al Khaymah, but an entry visa would be required here. Visitors traveling by private means are needed to purchase Omani insurance which goes for about 170 dirhams payable only in cash.
Visitors entering through Dibba will have to make a stop at a small border post along the coastline where border officials will check for an Omani visa. A UAE tourist visa is accepted as long as it is valid for one’s entire stay in Dibba.
Sights to see
There are numerous archeological sites to see in Khasab such as the Jabal Hareem fossils and the Bayt Al Kefel (the lock house). There are travel companies operating tours to these sites along for a reasonable fee. There are beautiful mountains that majestically rise above the sea, revealing dramatic ravines as one gets closer. One of the best scenic views is the drive from Al Harf on the way to Khasab. Visitors will get to see the Musandam famous fjords or inlets, alongside majestic rugged mountain cliffs. The water here is calm and crystal clear, providing a rare natural spectacle.
Activities to do
Musandam is known for its unforgettable boat rides, in traditional wooden dhows over the calm, clear waters. The area also offers a different kind of activity for those who are lovers of adventure hiking. The region is mountainous, and hikers are bound to experience intriguing treks in the winding routes. Those who take part in this hiking trip are required to meet locals living deep in the mountains. Local guides understand the terrain better than anyone and are always willing to offer their services to interested visitors. The area also has a rich culture that has been preserved over the millennia. Visitors can interact with the locals and savor the tasty cuisine prepared using ancient methods.
